| The Program has been structured
to provide an opportunity for both undergraduate and
graduate students at Georgia Tech to study the history
of art and architecture in Classical Greece and Italy.
The program's flexibility allows both beginning and
advanced study of aspects of the painting, sculpture,
architecture and urban design from the eras of Classical
Greco-Roman antiquity through the 17th century Baroque
period.
All study takes places on-site, in museums, or in walking
tours through cities. Students live in the historic
heart of Rome for two weeks, in the historic center of Athens, Florence and Venice for approxiamtely oneweek each, and for shorter periods
in Olympia, Paestum,
and Sorrento. Side trips are taken to Mycenae, Tiryns, Attica, Delphi,
Korinth, Isthmia, Epidauros, Pompeii, Herculaneum, Ostia, Tivoli, Siena,
Pienza, and Ravenna.
The number of credits for which students must enroll
is 12 semester hours. The program is approximately seven (7) weeks in length and is led by Associate Professor
Athanassios Economou, Professor Douglas Allen, and Professor Mario Carpo.
This specific year the program will include a four-day trip in Turkey for site visits to the ancient Greek and Hellenistic cities of Assos, Pergamon, Ephesos, Miletos, Priene and Didyma. During this four day trip students will live in the the contemporary Turkish cities of Pergama, Suljuk and Kusadasi. Fehmi Dogan, Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Technical Unviversity of Izmir, will join the group during this four day trip. |
