Off-Campus Access

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

CoA-IT has a VPN ( what is this? )installed for those needing access to files from off-campus. When the Client is running in connection with a broadband connection or wireless hotspot it’s like the computer is connected directly to the CoA network.

Instructions for installing and the download link: For PC's opens in new window

To download a file from the \\gtcoa server

Most GTCOA network file folders can also be found via the web at https://gtcoaweb.coa.ad.gatech.edu. After opening the page, accept the certificate and log in with your GT account and password. Browse to the folder you want to access and right-click a file and select Save Link As and save it to your computer.

To upload a file to the \\gtcoa server from off campus

In order to be able to copy files UP to the server, follow these directions ( login required - for PC's opens in new window | for Mac's opens in new window ) to set up WebDAV (Web based Distributed Authoring and Versioning).

Gettting to your Prism Share via WinSCP

You may use WinSCP3 to connect to your Prism share and download files to your local computer while not connected to the CoA network. Your Prism share is where students using the CoA network have their My Documents & My Desktop stored.

WinSCP may be downloaded from OIT’s software repository:
 https://software.oit.gatech.edu/request.php?package=winscp&platform=winxp

It is also installed in the CoA Labs.

  • To use WinSCP, go to the Start Menu, Programs, WinSCP and Start the WinSCP program.
  • Click New to create a new session.
  • Under host name enter acme.gatech.edu (acme is the server that WinSCP uses to get to your Prism Folder).
  • Enter your GTAccount name (prismid) and your password in the corresponding fields and click Login
  • Once connected, you’ll see a window with two panes. On the left is the computer you’re on with a drop-down box with all the drives on your computer. Under that is a list the folders in that drive. On the right is your Prism folder with the folders within it.
  • In the left pane, browse to the folder you want to copy to/from on your computer.
  • In the right pane, browse to the folder you want to copy from/to. Click and drag the file(s) between the panes to copy files. A “+” will appear by your cursor indicating that it can copy files to the destination. A dialog box will come up indicating the file(s) to be copied and the destination. Click Copy to start the process.
