2007 Ventulett Symposium: Uniformity and Variability

9:00 am - 12:30 pm and 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Saturday, March 31, 2007
College of Architecture Auditorium , Georgia Tech Campus Map

The theme of this year’s Ventulett Symposium is Uniformity and Variability in architecture. Since we are moving towards more and more digitally guided modes of production and design we will have to ask ourselves what these new tools can mean for our profession. One answer is that design will need to incorporate concepts that allow us to move away from pure, modernist repetition of components and type towards a thinking in variation. What exactly is variation and how do we organize it? – it raises classic issues like the relation between One and the Many, or the generic and the specific. The invited speakers are all experts in the matter and will be discussing their methods and approaches. The conference will focus on how to bring these new concepts of the variable together and make them useful to architecture.
