CoA Building Policies

Studios

Care should be taken in order to insure a comfortable working environment for all students. To insure this, students should observe certain guidelines:

  1. Keep the studios relatively clean. It is understood that during the course of a project it is difficult to maintain a high level of neatness in the studios. It is asked however, that an attempt be made to keep the mess to a level that can be cleaned by the custodial staff. Garbage cans are located in every studio. Any solid trash should be put into these. Any over-sized trash should either be marked as such and left by the garbage cans for removal or can be taken out to the dumpster behind the Old Architecture Building.

  2. Paints and other liquid wastes should not be disposed of in the bathrooms. They should be disposed of as directed by the Design Shop Foreman. Care should also be taken that exacto blades and other sharp objects are disposed of properly. Containers for the disposal of hazardous waste are located in some bathrooms;

  3. Recycling bins are provided for the disposal of aluminum cans. Please deposit cans only in these containers;

  4. In consideration of others, please wear headphones when listening to music;

  5. Students are free to hang posters, pictures, etc., in their studios so long as they display respect to issues of gender, race, age, ethnicity, color, religion, national origin and sexual preference. Posters, pictures, etc., that do not exhibit this respect will be removed from the studio area;

  6. Studios are cleaned during each semester break. Anything left on the floors are thrown away during this time. During the summer, everything that is located in the studios on the desk, in and on top of the lockers are thrown away. Announcements reflecting the cleaning are posted around the building and on the student email server. The Facilities Manager's office is not responsible for any valuables that are thrown away.

The program directors and studio instructors are responsible for the enforcement of all building policies within their studio spaces. Studio areas will be cleaned each evening and anything left on the floor will be considered trash (i.e., models, drawings, pieces of wood). Trash will be discarded by the maintenance crews.
