Access to the design shop is limited to qualified personnel only. Qualified personnel are students, faculty and staff of the College of Architecture who have satisfied one of the following three requirements:
In certain instances, if approved by a program director, persons from outside the college may receive permission to use the shop facilities after demonstrating their competence on the machines to the Design Shop Foreman.
All users must sign a copy of the Institute Liability Waiver form.
Classes requiring use of the shop by a significant number of students at the same time must supply an instructor approved by a Program Director for the students.
In order to become lab assistants, students must first pass a shop proficiency course which will be taught (not for credit) by the Design Shop Foreman. It is recommended that the Design Shop Foreman and the student assistants take a first aid course relating to possible shop injuries.
Access will be denied to any user who fails to obey shop regulations or who engages in unsafe shop practices.
NOTE: Spray painting and the use of other aerosol products such as spray fixative is only allowed within the designated spray paint booth area located in the basement level of the college shop. Spray painting in other areas within the College buildings or in outside areas adjacent to the College building is strictly prohibited.
