Emergencies

If an emergency occurs (i.e., fire, accident, criminal act) call the Georgia Tech Police at 894-2500. Since it is often difficult for an emergency vehicle to find a particular location on Tech campus, calling 911 may result in a long delay in response time. The Georgia Tech Police are equipped to assist emergency vehicles in finding specific locations.

Assisting Victim

If a person is injured or becomes seriously ill:

  • Notify Georgia Tech Campus Police at 894-2500,
  • Provide dispatcher with basic information: location, the nature or kind of injury or illness, and whether or not the victim needs an ambulance,
  • If you cannot provide the basic information, the dispatcher will send an officer to assess the situation, provide emergency first aid, and request an ambulance at the officer's discretion.

EMPLOYEES

The Georgia Tech Infirmary is permitted to render first aid to Georgia Tech students only. Students employed by the Institute are considered to be employees during the hours they are on the job. During the hours they are on the job:

  • Take the employee to Crawford Long Hospital or the nearest public hospital;
  • Call campus police 894-2500 immediately and inform them of the possible nature of the injury. Campus police will call for a properly equipped ambulance.

Serious Injury

If the injury to an employee involves possible damage to the neck or back:

  • THE EMPLOYEE SHOULD NOT BE MOVED unless it is absolutely necessary - unskilled handling can do harm;
  • If he/she must be moved - get help and try not to change the position in which he/she was found;
  • Call campus police 894-2500 immediately and inform them of the possible nature of the injury. Campus police will call for a properly equipped ambulance.

Workers' Compensation

The State of Georgia (DOAS) has contracted with a new telephonic reporting service to handle Workers' Compensation accidents for the Institute and to provide expanded customer service for employees. Effective immediately, all new Workers' Compensation accidents should be reported to 1-877-656-RISK(7475). Please note that the reporting procedures have not changed. Workers' Compensation accidents can only be reported by a supervisor or administrator.

The New Tool Free Workers' Compensation Telephonic Reporting Number will also serve as a Customer Service Line for employees. Employees may utilize the New Workers' Compensation Telephonic Reporting Number to access information regarding claim payment and register other issues of concern. Medical providers and vendors may utilize the Customer Service Line to access payment information and raise urgent issues. These services are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
