Alumni Mentoring Program

What is it?

The College of Architecture and the Alumni Committee have established a forum for alumni willing to mentor and advise current students of the College who are preparing to enter the work force. The COA Alumni Mentoring Program is designed to facilitate the interaction of alumni and provide a positive and lasting impact in the life of a young Tech graduate by offering advice on such issues as gaining employment, including interviewing tips, information on types of forms and their idiosyncrasies, advantages of different size firms, salary expectations, career advice after employment, juggling personal life and career, alternative career paths and career planning. Our goal is to offer our graduates a competitive edge.

How does it work?

  1. College of Architecture alumni sign up as mentors to current students and/or recently graduated alumni by registering and providing information about their current job, workplace and general career information, which is posted on the web in a searchable database.

  2. Students and alumni can search the database to survey general information about alumni career paths, or they can find mentors who might be able to help them. Once they are registered, they can contact a mentor directly.

  3. Once a mentor confirms that s/he is available for contact, the mentor and student can communicate through the medium of their preference - we recommend email. Email is the best way for students to contact mentors initially -- especially if the mentor lives out of the Atlanta area. Please indicate how you would like to be contacted. Mentors provide students with information about their experience and knowledge and can offer them connections to the working world.

  4. Mentors are not required to provide employment opportunities.

Who May Use the Mentor Network?

The Alumni Mentoring Program database may be viewed by anyone, but access to mentor contact information is available exclusively to currently enrolled College of Architecture students and alumni of Georgia Tech. The system administrator will verify alumni/student status. There is no fee for using the database.
