Tristan Al-Haddad holds a Master of Architecture degree as well as a BS in Architecture from Georgia Tech, also having studied at the University of Paris - La Villette and at the Daniels Center for Building Technology and Urban Design in Genoa, Italy. As an assistant professor in the School of Architecture, Al-Haddad has helped to lead the College's efforts in appropriating and radicalizing digital technologies for architectural design purposes. Having taught a variety of courses in the area of Design Computing, Digital Fabrication and Architectural Design Studio, his current research and teaching is focused on the continuous exploration of digital technology in the design, representation, analysis, and production of geometrically sophisticated architectures.
Al-Haddad is also a research faculty member in the Digital Building Laboratory [DBL] as well as the Digital Fabrication Laboratory [DFL] where his research is directed in the field of CAD/CAM technologies, Finite Element Analysis, flexible systems of design and construction, parametric design, and materiality. His academic research has been presented in a variety of scholarly publications and online features. The research has been supported by the Lafarge Corporation and the National Concrete Masonry Association. Al-Haddad also received a Fulbright Fellowship in 2009 to share his expertise as a visiting faculty member at the Universidad Tecnica Federico Santa Maria in Valparaiso, Chile.
In addition to his academic research Al-Haddad is also a working designer and visual artist. His work has been exhibited in venues including the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, The Boston Center for the Arts, The International Contemporary Furniture Fair, and The AIA’s Center for Architecture in New York as well as being published in print sources including the New York Times, Dwell, Metropolis, Art Papers, and The Atlanta Journal Constitution. Al-Haddad was one of seven recipients of the ARTADIA Artist Award in 2009 which was juried by several nationally recognized curators and critics.
