Many times people have get-togethers where there are so many guests that seating cannot be accommodated for. In the end, many guests end up sitting on the floor and lean against the end tables for back support. The Chable (chair / end table) was designed with this in mind. The front face has very subtle and yet distinct curves that contour to one’s back. It also acts as a storage unit and includes a very handy cushion / work pad depending on the side used.

Emergency Room Portal click image to see larger version

In this Graduate Studio, a group of four students worked towards a solution for the Entry and Exit Portal of the hospitals of the future, from where non-emergency patients enter and exit a hospital. The Portals main function is to be a filter that identifies, recognizes, detains, disposes and decontaminates the patients and staff of the hospital while detecting harmful diseases, harmful objects and harmful persons. The Portal can be considered a self-sufficient area of the hospital that controls the flow of persons traveling into and out of the hospital.

Salva child safety seat by Michael Pham click image to see larger version

Installing a car safety seat in your vehicle is the easiest way to save your child’s life. Unfortunately, 4 out of 5 safety seats are used or installed incorrectly, and these mistakes can be fatal. For instance, in 2001, of the 500 children under age 5 killed in car crashes, 200 of them were in car seats designed to save their lives. This is largely due to difficulty with installing the seat in the vehicle. The SALVA Child Restraint System was developed to alleviate this problem by streamlining the installation process for ease of use. The seat utilizes the new LATCH system standard in all cars manufactured 2002 and after. This allows for fewer errors which results in a safer and more comfortable ride for your child.

Benjamin Suttles
MIN Appliances, Sam Harris' ID3012 Studio

MIN appliances by Ben Suttles click image to see larger version

The Min brand is aimed at responsible use of materials and the elimination of disposability in kitchen appliances. Min appliances are inspired by furniture forms to suggest permanence, and instead of a fixed motor buried in layers of housing, min appliances use a single, plug-in motor. One motor for three appliances = 1/3rd the resources. And when the motor burns out, a replacement is easily obtained with no installation time or cost.
