Architecture Centennial Celebration Begins Aug. 27 with Lecture from John C. Portman (Arch 1950)
The Architecture Program will celebrate a century of architectural education with a series of events throughout the 2008-2009 academic year. Commemorating outstanding contributions of Georgia Tech architects in Atlanta and around the world, the lecture series, exhibitions and symposia will be free and open to the public.
The celebration will commence on Wednesday, August 27 with a lecture delivered by John C. Portman (Arch 1950). Architect, developer, business entrepreneur and civic leader, Portman’s impact is greatest on his hometown of Atlanta where, today, the 13-block Peachtree Center complex attests to his commitment to the downtown business district and includes many of his landmark projects. The evening will also feature the opening of a three-part historical exhibition developed by architecture professor Elizabeth Dowling and her student Lisa Thomason.
