Jerry Ulrich

 

ASCAP award-winning arranger/composer Jerry Ulrich is originally from Illinois, where he received his early training in music and developed an interest in and passion for songwriting. His numerous compositions and arrangements are in the catalogs of six publishers in the US and abroad. His music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, throughout New York City and on national radio and television, as well as throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia.

 

He has composed commissioned works for professional choirs and orchestras, including the Grammy-award winning Orchestra of St. Luke's. He has also written music for colleges and universities throughout the United States, including the University of Minnesota, University of Washington, George Washington University, as well as honors choirs in California, Alaska, Montana, Tennessee, Ohio, New York, Texas, North and South Carolina, Virginia, and Hawaii. His composition Harpenden Psalms was commissioned by the English organist and recording artist Robert Crowley and was premiered in St. Giles' Cathedral, Edinburgh.

 

Dr. Ulrich is currently Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he directs two mixed choirs and the all-male Georgia Tech Glee Club. Dr. Ulrich came to Atlanta from LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts (the Fame school) in New York City, where his choirs were featured in all major NYC concert venues and on national and international television and radio.

Dr. Ulrich's prior teaching experience includes university positions in New York and Ohio. During 1990-1991 he was Visiting Fulbright Professor of Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland. His early training included four years singing with legendary conductor Robert Shaw in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and Chamber Chorus. Additional academic study included a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University, where he was a student of Lloyd Pfautsch, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

 

Over the years, his choirs have shared the stage with Paul Simon, Judy Collins, Hugh Masekela, Kenny Chesney, Joe Walsh, and Stephen Schwartz, as well as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of St. Luke's. In the past ten years, five different choral ensembles under his direction have appeared over a dozen times at New York City's Carnegie Hall.
