Donny Allen

Assistant Director of Bands

Donny Allen, a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and the Assistant Director of Bands at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  He serves as Conductor of the Georgia Tech Wind Ensemble, Assistant Director for the Yellow Jacket Marching Band,  and Assistant Director for the Basketball Pep Bands.  His duties also include music history instruction and supervision of chamber ensembles.  He earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Memphis, studying with Kraig Alan Willams and Nicholas Holland.  Dr. Allen earned his Bachelor's in Music Education and Master's in Instrumental Conducting from East Carolina University, studying with Scott Carter and Christopher Knighten.

Dr. Allen has served as Assistant Director of the University of Memphis marching band.  He served in the U.S. Army as principal horn for the bands at Ft. Gordon, GA and Ft. Benning, GA. His experience also includes serving at East Carolina University, where he was Director of the Concert Band and Basketball Band.  Dr. Allen has taught band in the public schools at West Craven High School in Vanceboro, NC.  Dr. Allen is a member of CBDNA, The International Horn Society, MENC, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, as well as an honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
