The growth of the campus model has mirrored Georgia Tech's own explosive growth, having expanded well beyond the borders of the main campus. The expansion areas include north of 10th street, south into the Marietta street corridor, as well as east into midtown Atlanta. In addition, the continuous renovation of buildings coupled with the construction of new buildings (the CRC, for example) requires constant updating to the campus model. Over the years the Imagine Lab has produced numerous animations visualizing existing sites or proposed new projects to aid in decision-making, marketing, fundraising, or press releases.
The most recent development of the Georgia Tech Campus model is its implementation in a new game engine platform. This technology can provide a base where layers of information can be overlaid atop the Imagine Lab's 3D model infrastructure from datasets pertaining to a particular building to the real-time location of the GPS-tracked Georgia Tech Trolleys.
