The Intersection of Transportation, Health, and Equity

How bold transportation policies can make all communities healthier and stronger.

Washington DC (August 1, 2009) — PolicyLink and Prevention Institute; Commissioned by the Convergence Partnership

The Transportation Prescription is a policy guide that analyzes the intersection of transportation, health, and equity. Recommendations that can improve health outcomes in vulnerable communities, increase economic opportunities, and enhance environmental quality.

The report outlines 11 key policy proposals:
* encouraging and funding healthy and environmentally responsible transportation options;
* targeting transportation investments to low-income communities and communities of color;
* opening up the transportation planning process to encourage citizen participation and input; and
* promoting health benefits of reducing traffic injuries, encouraging physical activity, and improving health.
