The next DATHA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30th, 9:00AM to 10:30AM at Room 207 in the Health Systems Institute Building located at 828 West Peachtree Street, NW 2nd Floor Atlanta, GA 30332-0477.
Jon Sanford, Director of the Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA) and his students will be discussing the results of his course “Practicum in Home Modifications", a summer project-based, 3 credit hour field research and design course for undergraduate and graduate students.
Design students partnered with occupational therapy students from Brenau University to conduct site visits in homes of older adults as part of the home assessment program sponsored by the Georgia Naturally Occurring Retirement Communities (NORC) Initiative.
Jon will be presenting how the students learned to identify housing needs of older adults with functional limitations and to determine home modifications to meet those needs. Students from the class will present their work and reports on home assessments identifying needs, developing home modification plans that can be used by current NORC programs to provide needed modifications.
