      <title>Roper, Kathy &gt; &apos;Named to IFMA Board of Directors&apos;</title>

&lt;p&gt;
Kathy Roper, associate professor in the Building Construction Program, has been appointed to the International Facility Management Association is  2008-2009 board of directors. The term begins July 1.
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;
Roper,  CFM, CFMJ, IFMA Fellow, has more than 20 years of experience in the multi-faceted specialties of facility management and corporate real estate. Roper is a prolific author and contributor to various industry publications and journals, including more than a dozen scholarly publications. Her interest in sustainability led to her LEED Accredited Professional designation and nomination to the U.S. Green Building Councils formal education committee. 
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;
Roper is also a Certified Facility Manager, an active member of IFMA and an IFMA Fellow. She was awarded the 2005 IFMA Distinguished Educator Award of Excellence and the IFMA Distinguished Author Award of Excellence in 2007. 
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;
IFMA is the worlds largest and most widely recognized international association for professional facility managers, supporting more than 19,000 members in 60 countries.

Building Construction Associate Professor Kathy Roper presented a paper, &amp;quot;Providing Knowledge Worker Requirements: A framework for decision-making and evaluation&amp;quot; at the CIB W70 International Conference in Facilities Management.
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;
Professor Roper was invited as a key speaker during Industry Day of the international conference, which was held in Edinburgh June 16-18, 2008.
&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;
At the conference, she was also appointed to the Governing Committee of CIB W70 - Facilities Management.

James Spencer,  Academic Advisor in the Architecture Program, presented at the annual Best  Practices Event of the Georgia Tech Academic Advisors Network (GTAAN), held on  June 18 in the College of  Management.  Spencers presentation,   &lt;i&gt;When  Students are Out of the House:  Effective Advising in Programs  Abroad,&lt;/i&gt; detailed successful academic counseling practices for  international programs, using as a model the Architecture  Programs senior-year experience at LEcole Nationale Supérieure dArchitecture  de Paris-la Villette.  The event  drew over 100 participants from 19 colleges and universities from around Georgia  and the southeast, and provided a venue to share the most effective academic  advising practices in the region.&lt;br /&gt;

The 12-member Board is currently working  with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to overhaul the AFACTS (Advisor  and Faculty Access to Students) database and reporting  system.
