The Graduate City Planning Program prepares students to function as professionals who are capable of understanding and resolving planning problems in depth. To enable students to focus their education on a consistent and cumulative body of knowledge, the Program offers the following seven specializations:  

 

Economic Development  | Environmental Planning and Management | Geographic Information Systems  | Land Development  | Land Use Planning  | Transportation  | Urban Design

 

Geographic Information Systems

As in so many areas of society, computer technology is revolutionizing the practice of planning and policy analysis.  The information systems specialization is for those students who wish to gain an additional level of computer expertise and serve as information systems specialists within the planning field.  Graduates with this specialization will transfer existing planning analysis tools to the realm of the computer, develop entirely new computer-based techniques, and manage computerization programs within local, state, and federal agencies, as well as within the private sector.

 

Two courses are required for the GIS specialization:


Additional courses in the GIS specialization are offered exclusively in the City and Regional Planning Program. There are no other GIS courses are currently offered on campus. Most graduate level IT courses are not open to our students.
