Free and professional electives are typically taken during the junior and senior years. Building Construction students may choose to use their free and professional electives to pursue specialized skills in construction management, construction development, facility management, or construction science.
Construction Management prepares students to manage the planning and delivery processes of buildings by introducing the managerial systems and practices used by constructors.
Construction Development introduces students to entrepreneurial theories and practices used in the development of construction projects, focusing on urban economic theories, planning legislation and regulation, and urban development methods applicable in land and real estate development.
Facility Management introduces students to the management skills and expertise required in the facility management industry and explores how design, building construction, development, and maintenance fit together to create a cost-effective facility.
Construction Science is an analytically and engineering-oriented study designed to encourage students to challenge current methods of building construction and delivery techniques and to seek innovative solutions through study, research, and technical inquiry.
