COBRA 2007

Law Stream

List of Presenting Authors and Abstracts (pdf)

Following on from last year’s extremely successful London conference, The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has, once again, invited the Built Environment Law Network to participate in its annual ‘COBRA’ academic research conference.

The conference will feature a special “Law in the Built Environment” stream. This will provide an opportunity for academics specialising in law subject areas to meet, and to present and discuss their ideas with others working in similar areas. The hope is that the event will also enhance the profile of legal education and research within the wider Built Environment academic field.

The scope of the “Law in the Built Environment” stream is deliberately wide and is intended to accommodate the maximum possible range of subject areas and scholastic styles. Papers may address educational issues, doctrinal or other forms of scholarship or deal with empirical or socio-legal investigations within a Built Environment context. The following list provides an indication of some of the areas that might be addressed:

  • Law Teaching & Curriculum Development in Built Environment Education
  • The Law relating to Construction Contracts and Procurement
  • Conflict Management, ADR, Litigation & the Expert Witness
  • Negligence, Professional Liability and Indemnity
  • The Law of Real Property, the Land-Related Torts & Neighbourly Matters
  • Landlord and Tenant Law, including Dilapidations, Rent Review and Housing Law
  • Building Control, Planning, Conservation & Environmental Law
  • European Law, including Employment and Health & Safety Law
  • The Role of Legal Scholarship in the Built Environment

Details of last year’s conference and law stream abstracts can be viewed at www.bel-net.org.
