Profile:

Franca Trubiano, is a registered architect and Assistant Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 2003-2004, she was the first McMahan Visiting Associate Professor at Clemson University. From 1997 to 2003 she was a Studio Instructor at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Architectural Theory at Drexel University. Her teaching and research are focused on the history and theory of Architecture as well as on theories of technology and emerging materials. Her studio teaching, both at the graduate and undergraduate level, investigates questions of tectonics, materials, sectional thinking and the surface. Her dissertation research is centered on the study of 18th century architectural drawings and is entitled, 'Architecture in the Manner of Giovanni Battista Piranesi; Ornamental Excess and the Apotropaic Function of Grotesque Representations in 18 th century Architectural Theory.'

Recipient of research grants including the Salvatori Research Grant from the University of Pennsylvania, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Grant (1995-1999, Government of Canada) the Fonds aux Chercheurs et Aide à la Recherche (1993-1995, Quebec Government), and co- recipient of a Canada Council Artist B Grant. She was also a co-recipient of a Graham Foundation Grant for a PhD Symposium held at the University of Pennsylvania; Architecture: Imagining a Common Ground for Theory and Practice (1997).

She has been a visiting design critic at various universities including Harvard, Barnard/Columbia, Parsons School of Design, Temple University, Philadelphia University, McGill University and l'Université de Montréal. Recent scholarship is published in Chora, Intervals in the Philosophy of Architecture and the Encyclopedia of Twentieth Century Architecture.

She received her M.Arch (Dean's Honor List) and her B.Arch (University Scholar) in 1995 and 1988 respectively from McGill University in Montréal, Canada.
