History of Architecture from Ancient to the 18th Century
This is the first of a two course sequence covering the history of architecture from Ancient to Modern times. This course introduces the architecture produced from approximately 2000 BC to AD1750 by cultures throughout the world, with an emphasis on those sources of influence on the architecture of the Americas. The course includes two lectures and a preceptorial/discussion class each week. Two quizzes and a final exam will test knowledge of course material through discussion questions and visual identification of buildings.
Renaissance and Mannerist History and Theory
This course introduces the student to Renaissance Architecture in the 15th and 16th centuries in Italy. Both the constructed works and the principal writings will be studied in order to understand the reasons for the revival of interest in Classical architecture in this period.
American Academic Architecture
This course provides students with a working knowledge of both the history and design fundamentals employed by late Nineteenth to early Twenty-first century American Classical architects and also includes the work of currently practicing Classical architects.
