Sonit Bafna is a member of the doctoral program faculty at Georgia Tech's College of Architecture, associated primarily with the Theory & Criticism and the Design Morphology streams. His research addresses topics in the morphology of the built environment, spatial analysis (particularly space syntax), analytical theories of aesthetics, and the relationship between thought and design in architecture. He has explored these subjects through studies of 20th century modernism in architecture and through sponsored research on layouts of offices, clinics, and hospitals. Recently published work includes a co-authored article on the relationship of social network and spatial configuration Environment and Behavior, and another published in the RIBA journal on the emergence of the free-plan in Mies van der Rohe's architecture. Since joining the college faculty, Dr. Bafna has been a co-lecturer for the contemporary theory course in the M Arch core curriculum, has offered graduate seminars and intermittently taught design studios. His current graduate seminars include the Genesis of Architecture, Plan as an Architectural Device, and Formulation of Architectural Intention.
