Summer Study in Italy
Since 1993 the College of Architecture has sponsored an opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students at Georgia Tech to study the history of art and architecture in Italy. The program's flexibility allows both beginning and advanced study of aspects of the painting, sculpture and architecture from the eras of Roman antiquity through the 17th century Baroque period.
All study takes places on-site in museums or in walking tours through cities. Students live in the historic heart of Rome for three weeks and for shorter periods in Florence and Venice. Side trips are taken to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Paestum, Siena, Pienza, and Ravenna.
The minimum number of credits for which students must enroll is six semester hours, and the maximum is twelve. The program is approximately five weeks in length and is led by Professors Elizabeth Dowling and Douglas Allen.
