The College of Architecture at Georgia Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for two or more Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty Positions integrating architectural design and design research with appointments at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.
The College of Architecture is embarked upon a major reorganization to meet the challenges of rapidly transforming social, economic, technological, and environmental conditions. Undergraduate education, linking curricula in architecture, industrial design, and building construction, is being reformatted through cross- and inter-disciplinary requirements that engage the humanities, social sciences, and engineering disciplines at Georgia Tech. Professional education in architecture is being modernized to take advantage of digital modalities of design, analysis, collaboration, integration, and production in order to prepare flexible, socially-engaged architects capable of expanding knowledge of the built environment and advancing the state-of-the-art of architectural practice. These aims at both the undergraduate and professional levels are being fostered through post-professional and advanced studies and research programs highly focused on issues of Digital Design and Fabrication, High Performance Buildings, Urban Design, and Health as well as broader concerns for culture and the culture of architectural design.
To advance these agendas, engage in dialog and debate about the future of the discipline, and participate in undergraduate and graduate instruction, applicants are sought in the following areas:
High Performance Buildings: Candidates are sought with a focus in building modeling and simulation, monitoring, and control in support of the school’s goal to build bridges between fundamental research in building science and technologically-driven building design. Our goal is to build a team of individuals committed to the creative contact between design and research through innovative approaches to collaborative practice and instruction. The successful candidate will have responsibilities associated with the design and technology curriculum of the professional M.Arch. degree, will have a leading role in the post professional M.S. degree (High Performance Buildings concentration), and will contribute to Ph.D. studies in the same area. A doctoral degree is desirable, as is experience related to practice. A record of published research and potential for developing funded research are expected. The appointment can be at Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.
Digital Design and Fabrication: Candidates are sought with a focus on the role of digital tools in the integration of building design and production in support of the school’s goal to build bridges between the development of new digital technologies and their application in architectural practice and building construction. Candidates with evidence of innovative, experimental approaches to research and instruction in this area are especially encouraged. The successful candidate will have responsibilities associated with the design computation curriculum of the professional M.Arch. degree, will have a leading role in the post professional M.S. degree (Digital Design and Fabrication concentration), and will contribute to Ph.D. studies in the same area. A doctoral degree is desirable as is experience related to practice. A record of publications, whether of critically acclaimed practice or of research is expected. The appointment can be at Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level.
Consideration of applications will begin on January 15 but will be accepted until the positions are filled. Interested individuals are invited to submit a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a portfolio of work samples, a statement of research accomplishments and agendas, and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of three references to:
