- Is a portfolio required for entry into Georgia Tech Industrial Design?
- There is no portfolio required for entry into Georgia Tech. However, students admitted into Georgia Tech in the College of Architecture are required to submit a portfolio to the degree program (Architecture, Industrial Design, Building Construction) that they will pursue, at the midpoint of their second semester studio.
- What does this portfolio contain?
- The common first year portfolio will contain examples of the student's best work from studio projects from the first semester and the first half of the second semester. Prior work will not be included. It will also include a declarative essay as to why the student is choosing Industrial Design as a major.
- What are the criteria for being accepted into the Industrial Design Program after I complete Common First Year?
- There are a number of criteria reviewed in the application process. These criteria include the portfolio created in the first year studio, overall GPA at Georgia Tech, SAT scores and personal statements. As with admission to Georgia Tech, the application pool sets the standard for the year.
- May I take two studio courses at the same time?
- Since each studio course is dependent upon the previous studio course, students are not permitted to take more than one studio per semester.
- Is it possible to finish the Industrial Design Program in less than eight semesters?
- There is no way to complete the Industrial Design Program in less than eight semesters because studio courses cannot be taken concurrently. Typically, no Industrial Design studio courses are offered during the summer term, therefore the program takes four years to complete.
- What grade must I receive to satisfactorily complete a course?
- Students must receive a grade of C or better in all Industrial Design courses. Courses in which a student receives a grade below C, must be repeated.
