Most of the computers used in the College of Architecture are Windows-based machines with a few Macintosh machines spread throughout.
Most of our desktop computers are made by Dell, many with Canon scanners or multimedia-card readers attached. Our servers are mainly Compaq and Hewlett-Packard and our complement of printers and plotters are made by Canon and Hewlett-Packard.
Software
As noted above, our labs are mainly PC-based with a large complement of GIS, CAD, 3-D modelling, graphic design and layout, web design and project management software packages from such companies as Adobe, AutoDesk, ESRI, Macromedia, Microsoft and FormZ in addition to many others. Some software is available through the manufacturers for student download at a greatly reduced price or for free.
See a complete list of the software supported by the College.
Networking
Our network is based on the campus' high speed fibre backbone with lab computers and studio spaces provided with 100Mbit connections.
The campus
LAWN (Local Area Walkup & Wireless Network)
is also available throughout the College of Architecture Buildings.
Printing/Plotting
Laser printing is available for a nominal charge in both Black & White (10 cents) and Color (25 cents). There are eight B/W printers and five Color printers spread throught the CoA buildings.
Plotting (large-format inkjet printing) is available on our HP Designjet 1055cm plotters during business hours of the CoA HelpDesk. Plotting is available on a variety of media. Charges range from $3 - $7 per linear foot.
Multimedia
Both 8 1/2" x 11" and 11"x17"Scanners are in labs throughout the CoA and may be used by all CoA students.
Digital still cameras and mini-DV camcorders may be checked out from the CoA helpdesk during business hours. Some video editing software is available on our lab computers but for high-end video editing we recommend getting help from the folks at the
