- Michelle Berryman (BS ID 1993, MS Arch 2002) was inducted into the Industrial Designers Society of America College of Fellows, the highest order of recognition given to a member of IDSA. Her work over the past decade as an ambassador of IDSA and of has been tireless and has served to raise the profile of industrial design worldwide. She joins some of the best known design leaders in this select group including Bill Moggridge, Cooper Woodring, and Loraine Justice, among others.
- John C. Portman, Jr. (B Arch 1950) was honored as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 Alabama/Georgia/Tennessee Lifetime Achievement Honoree at a black-tie gala at the Intercontinental Hotel Buckhead in Atlanta on June 24, 2010. Read more.
- Elizabeth Meredith Dowling (B Arch 1971) recently became the Georgia Tech College of Architecture’s first emertia professor. She joined the faculty part-time in 1973, became a tenure-track faculty member in 1981, and ran the summer program in Italy for 17 consecutive summers.
- Paris program lecturer and alumnus Xavier Wrona (MS Arch 2008) selected as one of 12 young architects by the French Ministry of Culture for the NAJAP prize (Nouveaux Albums des Jeunes Architectes et Paysagistes). His work will be exhibited across Europe with the Cité de l'Architecture. Read more.
- George McCowan (BS ID 1998) was invited to lecture at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta in conjunction with the museum’s acclaimed Allure of the Automobile exhibition. In “21st Century Allure: A Designer's Perspective” McCowan, a digital designer at Nvistar International Corporation, described experiences designing high performance automobiles like the Cadillac V-Series and Corvette to Navistar International trucks, big rigs, and eighteen wheelers.
- John C. Portman, Jr. (B Arch 1950) is the 2009 recipient of the prestigious Lynn S. Beedle Lifetime Achievement Award award for his contribution to the advancement of tall buildings and urban development. This recognition underscores Portman’s legacy to infuse powerful humanizing qualities into art and urban environments.
- Professor of Practice and alumnus David Green (BS Arch 1987, M Arch 1991) was awarded a 2008 Bronze Medal from American Institute of Architecture Georgia Chapter at the Awards Gala in Atlanta October 4. The award recognizes distinguished and outstanding service to the Institute and the community.
- Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has appointed alumnus Tim Jackson to serve on the Florida Energy and Climate Commission. Jackson is president and CEO of Orlando-based Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, Inc., and his support of the Georgia Tech College of Architecture includes serving on the Dean’s Council. Jackson joined Orlando-based Glatting Jackson as a transportation planner and engineer in 1986. He holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and a Master of City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University.
- Joseph Claghorn (M Arch 2003) was selected as one of three graduating student orators to address 32,000 students, faculty, parents, alumni/ae, and guests at Harvard University Commencement in June 2009. Claghorn’s Oration in English, was selected from a pool of entries, which was followed by two rounds of oral auditions.
