Project 1 Small Product

Objectives: To gain an understanding of various power tools, and construction techniques commonly used in furniture construction. To learn to work safely in a shop environment.

Deliverables: A small, solid wood product with a retail value of less than $75.

Each student will fabricate and finish a small wooden product based on lessons given during class. This project will highlight the use of the jointer, planer, table saw and other stationary power tool usage. This project does not have to be built at AWPL.

The final object will be a small, solid wood product that would retail for less than $75. For reference, research the Crate & Barrel catalog/web site. The product should meet the needs of a typical gift buying C&B customer. The product will be finished with a choice of hand applied oil finish, polyurethane or a spray lacquer.
